4 Things To Know Before You Start Growing Cannabis

Growing cannabis is more challenging than other plants. Before you start growing there are some things you should probably know. First of all, you should only be growing cannabis if you live in a state or country where cannabis is legal. The penalties for getting caught vary in a lot of areas, but obviously they aren’t fun. Anyone who has been in the system knows how difficult it is to get out, so don’t risk it. For those of you who do live somewhere where cannabis is legal, there are a few things that you should be aware of before you start growing your own.

How Much Weed Can You Grow?

Different states have different laws regarding growing cannabis. You want to make sure that you are compliant with your state’s laws. In Oregon for example, you can grow four plants for personal use. In Colorado you can grow up to six plants at a time, but you’re only allowed three mature (flowering) plants at a time. Familiarize yourself with the laws in your area so that you are always on the right side of them.

Where Do You Need To Grow your Weed?

Are you growing outdoors, or are you just trying to bloom a couple plants in your closet? You should probably know where. Do you know how to grow sativa vs what you need to do to grow indica? Do you have the proper amount of space reserved for your plants? You also want to make sure that the people that you are living with are okay with you growing cannabis. The maturing plants can be quite aromatic, which can bother some people. It might be a good idea to offer your roommates some of your finished crops.

Do You Even Know How To Grow Weed?

Growing cannabis is different from growing a few sprigs of basil in your kitchen window. It requires a great deal of care and time to grow successfully. I’ve known plenty of people who have tried to grow in the small space in the back of their coat closet, and they have not been successful. Others who started out with a couple of clones up in their attic were able to turn their crops into a profitable farm. It may help you to learn a thing or two about botany Luckily, there are a lot of resources on growing at your disposal.

Are You Growing The Right Weed Strain?

No two strains are alike; some strains are meant for beginners, and others are crazy difficult to grow. Make sure that you pick out a clone that is suited to your growing abilities. Sativas, for example are generally easier to grow, but they also are better grown outdoors. Before you pick out a clone, ask your friendly neighborhood budtender any questions you may have.
