Cannabis has been purported to help at least 173 different ailments with very limited negative side effects. Yet the majority of our society still believes the lies and negative propaganda that the government told them about cannabis decades ago – and even today the misinformation continues.
Yet we still have a long way to go before people all over the world, people in dire need of this medicine are granted access to it. And where people don’t have to worry about going to jail or breaking the law in order to treat themselves with a medicine that grows from the earth and is provided to us by nature.
So here are 5 easy ways you can help make cannabis legal:
Share your story.
Cannabis consumers are used to living in secrecy, and the only way to overcome the stigma is to talk about it with the people closest to us.
Don’t underestimate the positive power story can have on others, especially those that you have a personal connection with.
By sharing your story on why you use cannabis and how it positively impacts your life, you will be surprised at how you can help bridge the gap for them and truly de-stigmatize.
You don’t need to go out of your way to share your story with everyone in your life, unless you feel called to do that, but don’t shy away from the knowledge you’ve gained. Whenever a conversation comes up that happens to be around an area that you find cannabis to be helpful, that is a great opportunity for you to share your truth. One of the wasy is to join social cannabis networks like this.
For example, I haven’t consumed alcohol for years now, since cannabis provides none of the negative side effects that I got from alcohol but does provide me with many other benefits. So when I’m with friends and the conversation comes up of having drinks it’s an ideal opportunity to move the conversation into mentioning that I use cannabis instead – and sharing the reasons why.
Be a good role model.
Mindful cannabis use can enhance a person’s life in all sorts of ways. If you’re a consumer and an advocate be a good example for what responsible use looks like.
Part of the reason so many people still have this old, irresponsible stoner image of people who use cannabis is because that is all they have seen. Your actions and who you are as a person speaks volumes, way more than your words ever could. That is why it is so important that as cannabis users we set an example of what a conscious cannabis user of today looks like.
Some ways of doing this are dropping your own shame around cannabis, which includes being mindful about how cannabis benefits you and how it doesn’t, having an intent and purpose for each time you consume. If you notice negative effects from your cannabis use or if it’s getting in the way of things that are important to you, take a break. Also, take care of your health by eating well, exercising and contributing positively to society and to the lives of people around you.
Get your medical recommendation.
If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal, and you do not have your recommendation but you are purchasing and consuming cannabis, then you are part of the black market and consuming illegally, which just fuels the social stigma around cannabis.
When you get your recommendation you are supporting the businesses in the cannabis industry that are putting a lot of work, time, money and risk into following the state guidelines, and you are showing the government how many cannabis users there actually are and how beneficial this plant can be, both economically and in terms of public health.
With a little bit of effort, you can enhance your knowledge around this plant, making it easier to approach others.
Knowledge is power, and when you start to learn the facts about cannabis and can clearly convey that information to others when they question you, the majority of the time you will be able to stimulate meaningful dialogue, changing minds and hearts. You just can’t ignore the facts, the cases, the studies and science that show all the positive benefits and life-saving qualities of this plant.
The challenge is that most people don’t know this information, all they know is the backwards propaganda and fear that the government and private organizations have pushed on them.
You don’t need to convince someone that cannabis is the solution but rather get them to question what they thought they knew about cannabis and how it might not actually be right. Kindly ask them where they got their information and if they’d be willing to consider new, updated info – then give them a resource, like learngreenflower.com, so they can let their own curiosity take over and do research for themselves.
Your vote matters.
Whenever you are voting for any politician it’s important to find out what their view points are on cannabis. Cannabis prohibition is an issue that affects many other aspects of society in a negative way. The more people we have in office that are in favor of cannabis legalization the easier it will be to start to overturn the harmful laws that are hurting so many and keeping cannabis in the dark.
Not enough people are getting out to vote. You might just be one person but together we can make a difference. So do some research and if you can’t find the information you are looking for, write a letter to the politicians and find out where they stand on cannabis and then make sure you get out to vote.
There are many things you can do to help make cannabis legal, and these are just a few easy ideas. As more of us come together and take a stand in our own worlds, in our own way, no matter how loud or quiet, we will make history, and we will see cannabis become legalized across the nation and eventually the world.
