A five-year-old girl in Australia accidentally exposed her mother’s marijuana plants after making a prank call to the local police station.
The choice prompted concerned officers to transfer to the property to check if anyone wished help. When they arrived at the home in New South Wales, Australia, nobody answered the front door.
But they spotted a light coming from the garage, where they found 15 cannabis plants growing in a hydroponic set-up.
Lake Illawarra Police District Sergeant Peter Northey said: ‘Police have seen… there was a light on in the garage down the side of the house.
‘Police have gone all the way in which down to the storage to check on the welfare of anybody inside.
‘As they’ve entered the storage they’ve found fairly just a few cannabis crops.’
The plants were seized for forensic examination and the little girl’s 30-year-old mother was arrested for cultivating a small quantity of cannabis. The officers who carried out the bust said the little girl’s prank call led them to find the crop. Sergeant Peter Northey said the case was unusual and he had not seen anything of this sort in his 18 years of service.
“Drug possession and cultivation is a serious crime. We do encourage any members of the public that may have information of other homes involved in this activity to notify the police by phoning Crime Stoppers,” said Sergeant Northey.
The mother has been charged with cultivate prohibited plant and is due in court docket docket on April 22.
