How To Counteract Getting Too High on This Years Festival Season

Festival season is officially here and with it comes the urge to let loose and give yourself over to the music. Sure, cannabis can definitely help with that but there’s a fine line between letting weed enhance your favorite song and getting way too high.

When consumed without concern for moderation, one can experience an intense, and often unsettling, high that can ruin Mary Jane forever. Now, we don’t want that, do we? To help you and your favorite bud enjoy festival season, we’ve put together a few tips to help you enjoy marijuana responsibly and avoid getting way too high.

Balance out your high with CBD

This one might scare you if your recent experience with cannabis has been less than amazing. Rest assured, THC and CBD are very different compounds. THC is what caused you to get way too high, but CBD is the miracle cannabinoid that can be used to sober you up. Cannabidiol is a neuroprotectant that will actually block the THC from affecting the brain.

Consuming 10 to 100mg of CBD should be enough to bring balance back to your body and brain after accidentally taking too many intoxicating cannabinoids. Many cannabis enthusiasts are now using products with a balanced ratio of THC to CBD making it a very powerful medicine. CBD will calm down your mind and relax your muscles to get you feeling normal again. Some patients only use CBD because they don’t want to run the risk of getting high at all. Be prepared and have some CBD on hand in case you get too much THC in your system!

Sleep enough

Sleeping may be one of the last things you want to do at a festival but it can also be the most effective to counteract being way too high. If you’ve gotten way too high, way too early in the day, head back to your hotel room or tent or just find a nice patch of grass to lay down on and relax. Be sure to take some deep breaths and focus on getting comfortable and relaxing.

Give your body time to metabolize the cannabis so the effects will come and go. Sleep it off until you feel normal again and try not to overdo it next time! Remember, don’t wander off a festival alone – always let someone know where you’re going or better yet, bring a friend with you to look out for you if you’re not feeling so good!

Know what your limits are

The first step to avoid becoming way too high in the first place is to know your limits. THC affects everyone differently and your friend may have a different reaction to the combination of cannabinoids and terpenes in the bud you’re smoking. Don’t feel like you have to keep up with your friends, either. “Keep it low and go slow” is the general rule of thumb when it comes to eating edibles or even vaporizing concentrate.

Smoking a bowl or joint is equivalent to about 10mg of THC depending on the total cannabinoid content. This is pretty low compared to the potential 50mg of THC you could get instantly from one “dab” and some consumers eat edibles with over 100mg THC content in one sitting. There are even products that contain 1000mg THC and because they use a distillate, these can be even more powerful than brownies made with cannabutter.

If you have never consumed cannabis in your life, starting with a 5mg dosage will make sure you don’t overdo it. Start with one dosage and wait for at least 2 to 3 hours before taking the second dose.

If you are a regular cannabis smoker, eating 10 to 20 milligrams of edibles should be the perfect amount for you to feel the effects. You can always eat more after a few hours but wait until you start feeling an effect before consuming more THC.

However, they do say that limits are meant to be broken and, unfortunately, sometimes this will happen. If you feel as if you’ve gone beyond your limits and the way too high feeling is beginning to sink in, there are a few things you can do to help bring you down.

Take a shower

If you’re headed back to your hotel room to get some shut-eye consider taking a shower as well. Cannabis users across the world swear by a good hot shower as a cure for being way too high. There’s a certain amount of science behind the theory as well. The hot water can cause a cleansing effect that makes your blood pump which forces your lymphatic system to move and process toxins quickly, thus moving the weed faster through your system. In any case, a hot shower is always a relaxing experience and should help your foggy mind feel at ease.

Drink planty water

Drinking pure mineral-rich water is probably the cure-all for everything. Once your body gets to a 5% dehydration level, you may experience a 30% drop in energy. If you’re feeling too couch locked from the dab you just hit and a patch of grass is the best that’s available, grab yourself a glass of water and drink two while you’re at it. Flush away everything that is holding you back from living life to the full. Being high should be an elevating experience, especially where festivals are concerned!

Summer festivals almost always entail spending long periods of time out in the hot sun, so whether you’ve gotten way too high or not, it’s important to keep lots of water handy to avoid dehydration.
