Cannabis E-Liquid and vaporizers have not become super famous over the last couple of years for no reason. Vaporizing is a discrete and arguably the healthiest way for you to use weed.
What is Cannabis E-Liquid?
E-liquids are liquids used for vaporizing. E-liquid for nicotine vaporizers often contains propylene glycol or PG, which isgenerally recognized as safe by the CDC. PG only becomes toxic at large doses, which is almost impossible to achieve from vaping alone. It’s used in many pharmaceutical products and some drink and foods, as well as in non-toxic antifreeze for boats and RV’s. Some countries in Europe pulled Fireball Whiskyoff the shelves because of its level of propylene glycol, but the FDA’s limit for PG in America is higher.
Nicotine can also be added, along with an endless amount of flavours. Cannabis e-liquid is an e-liquid that’s infused with cannabis. In the infusion process, the herb or concentrate is mixed and heated with propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and/or a high-proof alcohol.
In each method, the THC dissolves and infuses into the liquid. The final product is an e-juice containing cannabinoids and terpenes.
Exactly which cannabinoids get extracted depends on the strain used to make the liquid. For example, if the e-liquid is made with a high-CBD strain, the liquid produced will be non-psychoactive and won’t get you high. On the other hand, a high-THC strain will make a potent e-juice.
It’s important to note that cannabis e-liquid is different than THC and CBD oil. Although they are both concentrates, cannabis oil is the oil extracted from marijuana flowers using a solvent such as butane or naphtha. Both e-liquids and oils can be vaporized, although oils can also be dabbed or taken orally.
What Are The Benefits?
The biggest benefit of using an e-liquid is that you are vaporizing instead of smoking your cannabis.
When you inhale marijuana in a joint, pipe or bong, the material is burned and produces a smoke. The act of smoking may cause respiratory issues, such as coughing, a sore throat, and even bronchitis.
The effects of smoking cannabis are not as bad as smoking cigarettes. Vaporizing is recommended by doctors because it provides the same medical benefits while avoiding the irritating compounds.
A 2004 study found that cannabis smoke contained more known toxins than cannabis vapor. Researchers also discovered that the vapor was purer and delivered more active compounds than smoke. This means that you may need less marijuana to achieve the same high.
Many people are switching to cannabis e-liquids because it’s discreet and easily consumed with a vape pen. The user simply needs to place the e-liquid in the chamber, press a button to turn on the heating element and inhale the vapor using the pen’s mouthpiece.
What Are The Risks?
Though vaporizing reduces the negative effects of smoking, some people still have health concerns about cannabis e-liquids. Since e-liquids are a relatively new product, there are not yet regulations for manufacturers to follow. For this reason, it can be hard to tell what’s in the e-juice you’re purchasing.
Another common concern is the fact that no scientific studies have assessed their potential short- and long-term effects. This is an issue when it comes to propylene glycol, a thinning compound which is commonly used in e-liquids. The Food and Drug Administration considers the chemical safe when used topically or ingested. However, when it’s heated and inhaled, it could potentially be toxic and may cause respiratory issues.
If you’re worried about the safety of propylene glycol, you may choose to buy or make cannabis e-liquids using vegetable glycerin as an alternative.
Alcohol is another popular solvent for making e-juice at home. However, there are certain safety precautions you need to take if you’re making your own cannabis e-liquid at home. Alcohol is extremely flammable. Since some recipes require high-proof alcohol to be heated, there is a chance of an explosion or fire. To avoid this, make sure the area is very well-ventilated, do not use an open flame and do not smoke around the mixture.
You can make cannabis e-liquid in a number of ways, but any recipe using dried herb requires you to decarboxylate your cannabis first.
Decarboxylation is a scientific term for baking your cannabis to activate the THC. If you skip this step, your end product may not get you high.
Of course, it’s always easier to buy a commercial cannabis e-liquid. These products will be properly prepared and purified. But many people still choose to make their own, just make sure the e-liquid is made with ingredients regulated by the U.S. Pharmacopeia Convention (USP), which describes itself as “a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed and consumed worldwide.”
