Sploofs have been used by cannabis consumers for years and they are a reliable smoking device that every consumer should know how to make themselves. They are easy and cheap to make, and work to filter out the smell of cannabis when you exhale.
The omniscient internet is decidedly vague about where exactly the term sploof came from so maybe it’s not as omniscient as we all thought. Regardless, it’s not hard to conceive of the word sploof as a portmanteau (a blend) of the words “spliff” and “spoof”.
A sploof is a tool that combats the smell of cannabis smoke or vapor. It cleanses the air, in a way, by washing out the scent of cannabis as the smoke passes through the cleaning apparatus.
In essence, a sploof is a tube with a filter on one end. Upon taking a hit from a bong or joint, the smoker exhales into the open end of the tube, filtering the smoke and preventing it from causing suspicious smells from arising within the residence.
Before you turn to a sploof, make sure you’ve done the prep work first. This mostly boils down to assessing whether there are any sizeable gaps between doors and the ground or windows that don’t fully shut.
If the goal is to ensure as little smell as possible escapes from the room you’re in, damp paper towels are a great option to help seal the room. You may always wish to invest in strongly scented candles, although it should be noted that strong smells can sometimes evoke suspicion.
Need a sploof fast and at practically no cost?
All sploofs are built around the same basic principles: an enclosed tube with holes in both ends filled with some filtering agent.
Most of the materials you need can be found laying around the house.
- Plastic Bottle -or- Toilet Paper Roll
- Scented Dryer Sheets
- Tape -or- Rubber Band -or- String
- Scissors -or- Knife
If you are using a plastic bottle, use scissors or a knife to cut off the top of the bottle.
If you are using a toiler paper roll, you may want to get rid of the bits of leftover paper; however, this is optional.
Fill the inside of the bottle or tube with dryer sheets. You don’t have to pack them in very tight. Three or four sheets should be plenty.
Take a dryer sheet, fold it, and drape it over the end of your sploof. You can secure it using tape (any kind will do), a rubber band, or string. At this point you can go ahead and start using your sploof. Just blow your smoke into the open end of the sploof and your smoke turns from skunk to fresh laundry. You may want to get rid of the excess dryer sheets hanging around the outside of the sploof. Just take a pair of scissors and cut off the excess for a nice flush look.
Your sploof will remain usable for several smoke sessions. Keep and eye on the dryer sheets. When they begin to turn dark it is time to toss out your sploof and make another one.
